Year 6 - Platypus Class
Welcome to Platypus Class!
Our teacher is Mrs. Webb and our T.As are Mrs. Kaur and Mrs. Dwyer.
Term 4
Our topic in Term 4 is called 'Why are mountains so important?' and is geography-based. We will investigate how mountains may have been formed and find out how they are useful, as well as comparing mountain ranges around the world.
For reading this term, Year 6 will start by continuing 'The Girl Who Speaks Bear' by Sophie Anderson, which will enable the children to use their imaginations as they practise inference and evaluative skills once more. Will Yanka find out the secret of her past and will she be destined to be a bear forever? We will also begin our new text, 'The Wizard of Oz' by Frank L. Baum, an older text which enables the children to use their developing reading skills to gain deeper meanings from the story.
Our P.E days this term will again be a Monday (outdoors) and every two Wednesdays (indoors). Please ensure that your child has the correct kit, clearly labelled and in a bag which can be kept in their locker. This must include a t-shirt in their house colour, black shorts or tracksuit bottoms and trainers/plimsolls.
We will also be having Forest School every two Wednesdays, starting in Week 1. Children must bring old, warm clothing in a bag please to change into after lunch. Wellington boots are also strongly advised as the weather continues to be cold and wet.
The Term 4 document below provides an overview of the topic planning.
