Year 5 - Hornbill Class

Welcome to Year 5 Hornbills!

Our class teacher is Mr. Cullen; our teaching assistant is Mr. Dole

Hornbills are the national bird of Malaysia and Mr. Cullen has seen them flying around the jungles of Thailand! Hornbills are the only bird to have eyelashes!

In Term 1, we learnt about Ancient Egypt.

In Term 2, we will be looking in Geography, at how volcanoes affect the lives of people living near to them. Plus, we will continue learning about Earth and Space in Science.

We are continuing our book - Street Child - a wonderful true story about a boy who has a lot of misfortune in his early life but makes some wonderful connections on his remarkable journey. The book gives us the insight to how the amazing charity 'Barnardo's' was founded!

Our P.E days are Tuesday and Friday - please bring in suitable P.E kit for the weather. We will be learning football and dance skills.

Our Forest School day will be every other Monday (our first session will be Monday 7th November) - please bring suitable clothing for the weather.

A number of homework tasks relating to space were set in Term 1 - the children can continue working on these. Additionally, the children will be receiving volcano homework tasks every Monday. We will review homework on Fridays.

Dojo points will also be rewarded for evidence of children: practising key skills - times tables, handwriting, story writing, reading, researching etc.; being responsible at home - cooking meals, completing household chores etc.; practising passions - artwork, music, sports etc.; being environmentally conscious - recycling, litter picking, growing plants etc.; and sharing their weekend/holiday stories - diaries, picture diaries, blogs, show and tell etc.
