Year 5 - Jaguar Class
Welcome to Jaguar Class!
Our teacher is Mrs Cole and our teaching assistant is Mrs Chongbang
Welcome back to term 3. Our first term of 2023!
In Term 1, we learnt about Ancient Egypt and Earth and Space.
In Term 2, we learnt about how volcanoes affect the lives of people living near to them and about Earth and Space.
In Term 3, we will be learning about Ancient Maya in history and in science we will be learning about changes of state and properties of materials.
We are starting a new book - Running Wild - a wonderful story based around real events. The story shares the journey of a boy who survives the Boxing Day Tsunami of 2004. This story shares his remarkable journey.
Our P.E days will still be on Tuesday and Friday. We will be learning handball and dance skills. For Term 3, our Tuesday PE slot is in the morning. We would like the children to come to school in their PE kit and then change into uniform for the rest of the day - the children must remember to bring their uniform in their bags.
Our Forest School day will be every other Monday (our sessions are scheduled for the 16th and 30th of January and the 6th of February) - please bring suitable clothing for the weather and wellies or old trainers that can get muddy.
A number of homework tasks relating to our topics will be handed out in week one. We will review homework on Fridays.
It is expected that the children read every day (where possible). We have a number of reward systems in class for the children's reading to encourage this. The most important thing you can do to help your child is to encourage them to read and learn to love reading. If your child is a reluctant reader, please dedicate some time to reading together as a family - this will have the greatest impact!
