Year 1 - Ladybird Class
Welcome to Ladybird Class, our teacher is Mrs Pursey
Happy New Year! The start of 2023!
.This term we have a History focus and will be answering the enquiry:
How long have toys existed?
We will be learning about popular toys from Victorian times, the 20th Century and the early 21st Century. This builds on their learning in Reception where they talked about their favourite toys and games. We will start by looking at their favourite toys from today, before moving on to look at toys that were popular when their parents and grandparents were children.
We will be looking at Pirate stories in English this term. Where we will focus on; writing instructions using bossy verbs and develop story writing skills, through retelling and story maps. We will continue working lots on our Phonics in order to blend and segment to read and write. The children will continue to bring a new reading book home each Friday, which links to the sounds they are learning in Phonics. Please read with your child daily to help them consolidate their learning in school, this can be recorded in their reading records. We ask that book bags and reading books are in school every day to allow the children to read in school also, as well as earn dojos for reading daily.
There has been a change to our P.E timetable. This term we have outdoor P.E on a Tuesday and indoor P.E on a Thursday. They can keep their P.E kits in their lockers. P.E kit should include; the house colour t-shirt, shorts or jogging bottoms, plimsolls or trainers.
We have Forest School every other Wednesday, starting from Wednesday 4th January. Please send in clothes you don't mind getting wet and muddy in a named bag. As the weather has been colder they need to bring in additional layers and warm clothing. They will need; trousers, jumper, wellies and a waterproof coat.
