Year 1 - Ladybird Class

Welcome to Ladybird Class, our teacher is Mrs Pursey

Term 6

Wow, we're in our final term!

So much great learning has happened already and everyone is making great progress, but we've got one more term to complete with even more learning and to showcase our successes.

This term we are focusing on Geography, answering the enquiry question:

Why does it matter where my food comes from?

The topic investigates how people interact and are interdependent with the environments that surround them (rural or urban). During the investigation children will be able to explore a number of key geographical concepts, such as location and distribution, and in simple terms, economic activity and trade. The enquiry is not only about ‘where’ our food comes from, but it enables the children to understand ‘why’ it is important to know.

We also have the opportunity to go to Kent Life and participate in one of their workshops ‘Field to Fork’ as an exciting way to learn in a ‘hands on’ way. The children will also have opportunities to experience herb and fruit gardens, nature trails, farmyard friends and a tractor ride!

We spend a lot of time learning Phonics and blending to read. Children learn new phonemes or digraphs over a week and bring home their new book each Friday which consolidates their learning. Please read with your child at least 10 minutes daily. Homework is set for the term and the expectation is to bring in one completed item each week.

We have a change to our P.E timetable this term. Indoor P.E  remains on a Tuesday afternoon and outdoor P.E has moved to a Friday afternoon. The children can keep their P.E kits in their lockers. P.E kit should include; the house colour t-shirt, shorts or jogging bottoms, plimsolls or trainers.

Now we are in the summer term, they may need a hat, suncream applied before they arrive and water bottles please.

We still have Forest School every other Wednesday. Please send in clothes you don't mind getting wet and muddy in a named bag. When the weather is colder they need to bring in additional layers and warm clothing. They will need; trousers, jumper, wellies and a waterproof coat.

If you have any questions, you can contact me via ClassDojo messages, or speak with me at the end of the day.
