Year 1 - Ladybird Class
Welcome to Year 1 Ladybird Class
Class Teacher: Miss Tombs
Teaching Assistant: Miss Brown and Miss Humphrey-Smith

Welcome to Term 3
In English, we continue our Curious Quests! Our rich vocabulary to accompany the quests will be sent out each week on Class Dojo. Alongside this, we’ll carry on with our phonics learning. In Term 3, we will be learning more Level 5 sounds so that we start to be confident in using them for both reading and spelling new words. We will also be revising all Level 2 and 3 sounds and Level 4 words.

In maths, we will explore place value of numbers to 20 and addition and subtraction to 20. We will continue to use part whole models, number bonds and learn about partitioning numbers into tens and ones.
Science learning will explore 'sensitive bodies'. The children will learn to identify and name body parts in animals and humans and conduct some practical activities with the senses to spot patterns and answer questions.
Our Historical Enquiry in Term 3 is 'How have explorers changed the world?' The children will learn about what explorers do and what equipment they need. They will be able to name important explorers and learn about their achievements. They will understand events in relation to the present day and compare how exploration has changed over time.
Our PE day is Thursday and your child can wear their PE kit to school on that day.
Home learning will be reading Rhino Readers, Twinkl phonics and the Twinkl maths app. Your child should have their reading book in school every day and should practice reading at home on a daily basis. Reading books will be changed every Friday.
