Term 4
Wow, we're flying through this year!
This term is an exciting one - with World Book Day, art week and the PGL residential to Kingswood.

We will start the term by listening to and watching the music video Titanium by David Guetta featuring Sia.
The music video follows a young boy who discovers he has mysterious, powerful abilities that he cannot fully control. After an unexplained explosion at his school, the boy is found alone and unharmed in the wreckage, implying that he was the cause of the incident. Afraid and confused, he runs home, only to find himself increasingly pursued by adults and law enforcement who see him as a threat rather than a child in need of help.
As the tension builds, the video shows how society reacts with fear toward things it does not understand. The boy’s home is raided, and he flees again, desperately trying to escape the people trying to capture him. In the emotional final scene, he is surrounded by armed officers. Feeling trapped, he unleashes his powers in a burst of energy, symbolising both his resilience and the pressure he faces.
We will create a mystery board with clues, questions and predictions around the video, to gain a deeper understanding of what we see. We will write a character profile of both the teacher and the boy, as well as setting descriptions of the chaos. We will focus on the use of figurative language, writing from first person perspective, expanded noun phrases, tenses and vocabulary choice.

We will continue to work in groups to further develop and consolidate our skills using the four operations and demonstrate our understanding of reasoning problems. We will continue with fractions, decimals and percentages. We will then move on to area, perimeter and volume.

In Reading, we will be reading Letters from the lighthouse by Emma Carroll and completing a variety of activities around the text.
Olive and her brother have been evacuated to Devon, but her older sister Sukie is still missing from the night of the bombs. A mysterious note found in the coat of her sister suggests that Sukie was involved in something dangerous, but Olive can't make the pieces fit together.
We will also be completing comprehension tasks around different texts to support us with the skills of inference, retrieval, scanning texts and vocabulary development.

This term, our enquiry will focus on our science topic of living things: classifying big and small. We will be looking at the characteristics of living things and using branching keys to classify them. These include: cold-blooded vertebrates, warm-blooded vertebrates, invertebrates, plants and micro-organisms. We will be learning about Carl Linneaus, who identified that with so much biodiversity (variety of living things) on the planet, it is helpful to group them based on similarities. This will build on prior learning in Year 4, when children learnt about classification and changing habits.

P.E this term remains on a Tuesday afternoon, where we will be learning the gymnastic skills and will be able to use the new hall equipment. Children can wear their P.E kits to school, with appropriate footwear. Earrings must be removed for P.E and long hair tied back.

Forest school returns this term on a Monday afternoon. Children will again be split into two groups and will either attend the first three Mondays (23.02.26, 2.03.26, 9.03.26), or the final three Mondays of term (16.03.26, 23.03.26, 30.03.26). You will be notified by Class Dojo which sessions your child will be attending. To be able to attend, children must bring to school a complete change of clothing, including wellies or alternative suitable footwear.
Reminders will be sent about Forest School and P.E on Class Dojo, as well as information shared about the learning. Any queries or questions please message me using Class Dojo.
