Year 2 - Dormouse Class

Welcome to Dormouse Class

Class Teacher: Miss Hilton

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Ninglekhu

Term 3

Welcome to our new school!

This is a very exciting term – our new classroom is finally here and awaiting some hard work!

Our enquiry focus is ‘Our Wonderful World.’ This will give the children the opportunity to locate and name famous landmarks around the world. We will be walking around our local area to locate special landmarks in Canterbury.

Our English sessions will be linked to the following books:

The Boy Who Loved Maps By Kari Allen

Halibut Jackson By David Lucas

Writing will continue to focus on punctuation, description and extending with conjunctions. We will be writing about real life experiences and using our imagination and descriptive writing skills to create our own fancy costumes linked to Halibut Jackson. In our phonics learning we will continue to learn the Level 6 sounds to support us with our reading and spelling. If you would like to support your child with this at home you might find the following video clip helpful:

Art is linked to our map work and there will be opportunities for us to create 3D collages to bring maps to life!

Our Maths learning will begin with Shape and lead on to Money.

It is always helpful to us for you to support your child’s learning at home with tasks such as telling the time, money and measurement. We will visit these areas later in the year but if they are already familiar, it is beneficial.

PE will be inside on Friday afternoon, so please have an appropriate named PE kit and trainers. These can be worn to school and kept on throughout the day.

Forest school sessions this term will be slightly different.

We will have split groups and each group will have 2 weeks each with the last week shared.

The children will come to school in their Forest School clothes, but it is imperative they bring their uniform to change into after the session. As you will understand, we want to minimise any muddy clothes in the classroom. Please, please can you remember to pop the uniform in a bag, as well as their clean school shoes.

Home learning will include reading each day and phonics/reading/spelling games on

Twinkl For Web alongside practise TT Rockstars.

If you have any questions, please contact me via DOJO.

Thank you for your continued support.
