Year 2 - Dormouse Class

Class Teacher: Miss Hilton

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Ninglekhu

Term 2

We are sailing through the year!

Welcome to the new term.

Our enquiry focus is ‘How was school different in the past?’ We will welcome a visitor to our classroom and they will share their experiences of what school was like for them. We will be placing events on a timeline and talking about schools in the past and comparing to school today.

Our English sessions will be linked to the following books:

Bog Baby by Jeannie Willis

The King of Tiny Things by Jeannie Willis

Welcome to Alien School by Caryl Hart

Harry and the dinosaurs go to school by Ian Whybrow

Our Maths learning will begin Addition and Subtraction leading on to Shape.

It is always helpful to us for you to support your child’s learning at home with tasks such as telling the time, money and measurement. We will visit these areas later in the year but if they are already familiar, it is beneficial.

PE will be inside on Friday afternoon, so please have an appropriate named PE kit and trainers, this can be worn to school and kept on throughout the day.

We will not be having Forest School sessions this term so there is no need for home clothes on Tuesday.

Home learning will include reading each day and phonics/reading/spelling games on

Twinkl For Web alongside practise TT Rockstars.

If you have any questions please contact me via DOJO.

Thank you for your continued support.

Term 1

A BIG welcome to Dormouse Class!

We are going to have a wonderful year full of new learning opportunities and experiences.

Our English sessions will be linked to the following books:

Augustus and His Smile by Catherine Rayner, Home by Carson Ellis, A Place Called Home by Kate Baker, We’re Roaming in the Forest by Laurie Krebs and The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson.

Our Maths learning will begin with Place Value, leading on to Addition and Subtraction.

It is always helpful to us for you to support your child’s learning at home with learning the number bonds to 10 and then to 20. Your child should be able to rapidly recall all the pairs of numbers that make 10 e.g. 1 + 9, 2 + 8 etc.

We will begin with our Geography enquiry, and the question ‘Would you prefer to live in a hot or cold country?’ You will be able to name the seven continents and find them on an atlas.

PE will be on a Friday afternoon, so please have an appropriate named PE kit and trainers. These can be worn to school and kept on throughout the day. Please remember your named jumper or fleece. This term we will be doing PE outside.

Forest School will be Tuesday Afternoons. Please bring your Forest School kit and appropriate footwear to school in the morning, ready to change into at lunchtime.

Home learning will include reading each day and phonics/reading/spelling games on the Twinkl app. Login details for this can be found in your child's reading record book.

If you have any questions please contact me via DOJO.

Thank you for your continued support.
