Year 2 - Dormouse Class

Welcome to Dormouse Class

Class Teacher: Miss Hilton

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Ninglekhu

Welcome to Term 4

We had a great term in the new building and Term 4 is looking to be just as fantastic!

Art Week and World Book Day will be focused around the book: 'A Planet Full of Plastic' and we will be creating a big artwork using recycled plastic to go on display in school, to raise awareness about plastic pollution.

English

Our English sessions will be linked to the following books:

Emma Jane's Aeroplane By Katie Haworth

Taking Flight By Adam Hancher

A Planet Full of Plastic By Neal Layton

Writing will continue to focus on punctuation, figurative language, extending with conjunctions and using a range of writing in a range of styles. We will be writing poetry using similes and build our confidence to perform these to the class. We will be acting out our class text using puppets and drama skills to help us to retell the story in our own words.

Phonics

In our phonics learning we will continue to learn the Level 6 sounds to support us with our reading and spelling. If you would like to support your child with this at home, you might find the following video clip helpful:

Maths

Our Maths learning will begin with multiplication and division and go on to length and height.

Learn Your Two Times Table in Rap! | MC Grammar 🎤 | Educational Rap Songs for Kids 🎵

Learn Your Five Times Table in Rap! MC Grammar 🎤 | Educational Rap Songs for Kids 🎵

Learn Your 10 Times Table in Rap! | MC Grammar 🎤 | Educational Rap Songs for Kids 🎵

It is always helpful to us for you to support your child’s learning at home with tasks such as telling the time, money and measurement. We will visit these areas later in the year but if they are already familiar, it is beneficial.

History

Our history enquiry focus is ‘How did we learn to fly?’ This will give the children the opportunity to discover the history of flight and learn about some significant people who shaped the way we travel around the world today.

Term 3

Welcome to our new school!

This is a very exciting term – our new classroom is finally here and awaiting some hard work!

Our English sessions will be linked to the following books:

Writing will continue to focus on punctuation, description and extending with conjunctions. We will be writing about real life experiences and using our imagination and descriptive writing skills to create our own fancy costumes linked to Halibut Jackson.
