English Resources - Phonics, Reading and Spelling

A little reading and writing practice at home makes a real difference to your child's progress in school. Here are some great ways to help build confidence with phonics, reading and all things English at home!

Reading at Home

Every child is sent home with a reading book, and we'd love for this to be read as often as possible - ideally 3 to 5 times a week.

• Year R and KS1: Children bring home a Rhino Reader decodable book, carefully matched to their phonics level, alongside a reading for pleasure book to enjoy together. Both books are changed weekly on a Friday. Please see the attached letter below for more information on how the scheme works.
• KS2: Children bring home a reading book that's been carefully chosen to match their reading level.

Reading together - even just a few minutes a day - is one of the most powerful things you can do to support your child's learning. Snuggle up, share a story, and most importantly, have fun with it!
