Year 2 - Seal Class
Welcome to Seal Class.
Our class teacher is Mr Chappell and our class teaching assistant is Mrs Cooper
The focus for our learning in Term 5 is around our history enquiry question:
'How have significant people and events changed my locality?'.
We will be studying the local history of Canterbury, giving the children the opportunity to rediscover their home city and explore some of the amazing wonders that are right on their doorstep. We will be looking at how Canterbury has changed over time and why these changes took place, identifying key events that took place and how these have changed the area. We will also learn about how significant people changed the area. Later in the term, we will be taking the children on a walking tour of some of the local places and pointing out some key features that they likely have not seen before. In Seal class, we have many new students that are new to the area, so this will be a really exciting opportunity for them to learn a little bit more about where they live.
During Term 5, our P.E days will be on a Wednesday and Friday. On Wednesday, the children will be outside learning the game of rounders and will re-visit some of the important skills we have already learnt this year. They will have to work as a team to field, catch, bat, run and score their points. On Friday, the children will be indoors learning dance. They will be putting together routines with music, using their body to create different movements and shapes. Please make sure your child has the appropriate kit in school on these days. They will require PE trousers/shorts, a P.E top, a jumper if needed (school or PE suitable jumper) and trainers. For indoor PE, the children can wear plimsolls or have bare feet.
Our Forest School days will be on alternate Tuesdays. This is held in the beautiful grounds of the school and run by our forest school lead Mr Walsh. The dates this term are:
Tuesday 18th April
Tuesday 2nd May
Tuesday 16th May
Please make sure your child brings their Forest School kit in with them on these days to avoid disappointment. Please be prepared for the British weather and have the appropriate clothing for the day (wellies, coats, jumpers, trousers).
Home learning is sent home every week on Fridays and should be returned by the following Thursday. You will find six activities in the homework book. Your child can select one of these to complete each week. Children are also encouraged to read every day at home and receive Dojo points when they do this. Your child should also know their Spelling Shed and TTRockstars usernames and password, so they can access these at home. If you are unsure, please let me know and I can recover these for you.
If you ever have any concerns or questions please don't hesitate to contact me. I am at the classroom door before and after school or, alternatively, you can email me on the Class Dojos. We use the Class Dojo page every day to provide an update of all our class learning.
