Year 3 - Kingfisher Class

Welcome to Kingfisher Class

Class Teacher: Mr Van-Walwyk

Teaching Assistants: Miss Potts

Welcome to Term 1

Welcome back to the new school year!

English

We are starting the term looking at the book The Hodgeheg. This will help the children to describe characters, settings and start to use some speech too. It is a lovely book, which will engage and motivate them to produce some wonderful pieces of writing.

Our reading book this term will be 'You’re a bad man, Mr. Gum'.  Mr. Gum is a truly nasty old man who hates children, fun, and even dogs! But when a lovable dog named Jake starts causing trouble in the town of Lamonic Bibber, Mr. Gum hatches a wicked plan. Luckily, a brave girl named Polly is ready to stand up to his rotten ways. Full of wild humour, silly surprises, and wacky adventures, this book is perfect for readers who love a good laugh!

Geography

Our Geography enquiry this term is, 'Are all settlements the same'. The children will begin to develop their map work skills, comparing the local area from past and present.  They will be learning the difference between different settlements and how physical and man-made features effect our settlements.

Science

Our science this term is 'Animals: Movement and Nutrition’.  The children will be learning that animals can be classified as vertebrates, which have a backbone, or invertebrates, which do not.  They will also be exploring what nutrients are needed by the body to successfully move, grow and stay warm.

PE

PE will be on a Thursday afternoon, where the children will be learning to play football. Please could the children have an appropriate PE kit in school.

Forest School

Kingfisher’s Forest School sessions will take place on the following dates; 3rd September 10th September 24th September and 8th October. Please remember your Forest School kit and appropriate footwear. Check the Class Dojo page for regular updates on Forest School.
