Welcome to Term 1
Welcome to our first term as Year Four.
Our reading book this term will be 'Kensuke's Kingdom'. Washed up on an island in the Pacific, Michael struggles to survive on his own. With no food and no water, he curls up to die. When he wakes, there is a plate beside him of fish, of fruit, and a bowl of fresh water. He is not alone … We will be using this text to help us create a range of writing, such as; recounts and diary entries, informal letter writing and creating some non-chronological reports. It will help us develop our knowledge of paragraphing, how the past tense can be used and how to become more creative in our writing through the use of fronted adverbials and expanded noun phrases.
Our science this term is 'Animals including Humans: Food and digestion.' The children will be learning about what good dental care is and how teeth and other parts of the human body are involved in the digestive system.
Our Geography enquiry this term is, 'Year 4: Enquiry question: Where does our food come from?'. The children will be exploring how and why different foods grow in different biomes. They will also be carrying out research into responsible trading, in particular, around cocoa beans and chocolate.
PE will be on a Monday afternoon, where the children will be learning to play netball. Please can the children come to school already wearing appropriate PE kits and shoes.
Red Kite's Forest School sessions will take place in the first weeks of the half-term. They will take place on Thursday afternoons (starting 11th September). Please remember your Forest School kit and appropriate footwear. Check the Class Dojo page for regular updates on Forest School.
Teachers can be contacted via Class Dojo if you have any questions or queries regarding home learning.
Home Learning and Reading
All children have got access to their TTRockstars accounts. We have Twinkl Learner, which children can access in school and at home. This is full of learning games, challenges and opportunities for them to practice their weekly spellings and timetables.
Please support us and make sure they are accessing this at home to support their learning. If you are unsure of any logins or access to the Twinkl account, please let me know and I will be happy to help.
