Year R - Rabbit Class

Rabbit class

I am Miss Annecchiarico, Rabbit class teacher. Working alongside my team, we aim to give the children a fantastic, enjoyable early years’ experience in Year R. I spent some time living in Italy, where I played outside much of the time and I look forward to playing outside with your children.

I love reading and aim for the children in my class to love reading too.

Do check Rabbit class DoJo as I regularly post vocabulary, photos and information about children is learning.

Term 4 Rabbit class

Welcome to term four. In Rabbit class we have Miss Annecchiarico,  class teacher and teaching assistants Miss Sharp, Miss Wong and Miss Redman. If you have any questions about your child’s learning, I am always happy to talk to you in the morning or afternoon.

Forest school is now on Monday mornings.

Please send your child to school in their forest school clothing.

PE

PE continues to be on a Tuesday morning. We are learning to hop, skip and gallop. We  learn how to find a space in the hall and why exercise is important.

Playing

Learning through play continues to be a very important part of our curriculum. The children have opportunities to decide what they want to learn,  both inside and outside. This includes playing in the mini beast tuff spot, cooking in the kitchen, measuring which plastic worms are longest and creating models in our art area.

Learning outside

The children love learning outside, we have many new resources outside, including a new clamber frame. Please make sure children have a warm coat in school every day.

All about Minibeasts.

Our starting point this term is Minibeasts. We have a wormer in our class so that the children can learn all about worms. We will be learning about different insects, spiders,  butterflies and snails.

The vocabulary we are learning will be shared on Do-Jo with you.   Our knowledge organiser tells you which words the children are learning. This can be found on our class page.

We are starting with the lovely story, Super Worm by Julia Donaldson.  Then we will be reading nonfiction books about insects and finishing the term with The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.

In our story times each day children will be read a range of high quality children’s books, some linked to our learning about mini beasts and other books read to the children for their enjoyment.

Remember you are very welcome to send in a book your child enjoys and we can read it to the class.

Talking about the stories.

We pretend to be Super worm and talk about how he is a hero and what this means. We make super hero masks and write super hero words, like pow and zap. We link learning about insects with our PE lessons, where we move like the insects in the stories.

We link actions to the stories, enjoying saying Super worm is strong and then showing our arm muscles!

Drawing and writing.

Children are taught how to draw insects and copy illustrations from the stories, as this supports their early writing development.  Children are given opportunities to write on a large scale, using big paper and the class whiteboard. We also teach them to write sentences, making a super worm rhyme, a fact sheet about an insect and a book about the Hungry Caterpillar.

Phonics and reading.

We continue with our interactive phonics lesson each day. We are learning level three digraphs and level three tricky words. Your child will be reading decodable books, which contains the phonemes they need to read. Please read at least 5 times a week with your child and sign that you have done this in their reading record.

Maths

We learn maths each day. This term our whole class teaching is focusing on length, height and developing a deep knowledge of the numbers 9 and 10. The children enjoy a range of practical activities alongside our whole class teaching. We measure objects deciding which is longer or shorter. We use counters to show different ways to make 9 and 10.

Class book

Both Year R classes have a class book, where drawing, writing, maths and photos are displayed. If your child does any work at home, that they would like to share in this book, please do send it in.

If you have any questions about your child’s learning, I am happy to speak with you.
