Welcome to Owl Class. I am Mrs Peachey-Smith, the Class Teacher, and Miss Esson is the class TA. We also have the school's inclusion team on hand to help and support reception children.

Welcome!

It was wonderful to meet you and your children during our home visits. We have been busy preparing everything for the start of the term. In the first term, we will focus on getting to know your children and introducing them to the rules and routines of the school. We will encourage them to exhibit the Pilgrims' way values, and illustrate what this looks like. Our main goal is to help your children settle into their new learning environment and support their learning through various indoor and outdoor classroom activities.

Understanding of the World:

Our topic is ‘All About Me’, which includes finding out about ourselves, each other, and our relationships, such as families, friends, communities, and cultures. We will also delve into beliefs and values, as well as physical, mental, social, and spiritual health. We will explore our learning environment, using it to aid our learning through adult-led activities, and most importantly, independent play. Our indoor and outdoor classrooms will be utilized to facilitate our learning, and we will take a trip around the school grounds to become familiar with our school and the school community

In Term One, Reception will be exploring three main books: 'Colour Monster', 'Colour Monster goes to school', and 'We are all different'. These books focus on relationships with friends and family, as well as how we are all different. They also discuss feelings and how to express our emotions. This will tie in with our theme of learning 'All about me'.

Forest School

Our Forest School day is Tuesday. Your child will need to bring in their Forest School kit for these sessions. Please provide them with old clothes and some Wellington boots. If the weather is cold or wet, please make sure your child has a coat.

P.E

During Term 1 our P.E day will be Thursdays. Please make sure your child comes to school with their P.E kit on this day. This should be in a named bag and should include shorts, a t-shirt and plimsolls/trainers.

How You Can Help at Home

- Read with your child every day. Every week on Fridays your children's reading books will be changed. Children are also encouraged to read every day at home and receive Dojo points when they do this. Please sign the reading record so we can keep track of what books have been read.

- Practice the phonic sounds that we are learning in class at home

- Talk to them about school routines, such as putting their things in their lockers, registration, tidying up, lunch times, and eating

- Use the newsletter to discuss their current learning and encourage them to incorporate what they have been learning into their everyday routines

- Explore their interests through their play
