Year 6 - Nightingale Class
Welcome to Nightingale Class
Class Teacher: Mrs Cole
Teaching Assistant: Mrs Sobhani
Welcome back to Term 3
This term we will be extending our new learning in Maths, looking at ratios, decimals and fractions. We are looking at a new enquiry question for History and using two great reading books for inspiration for our English writing and reading comprehension practice.
Enquiry Question - History
What can the census tell us about local areas?
This term we have a history enquiry: 'What can the census tell us about local areas?' This builds on our learning of the impact of World War II on the people of Britain and the change in women’s roles. We will learn that members of society standing up for their rights can be the cause of change.
Reading
Our book this term is: The Girl who Speaks Bear by Sophie Anderson.
We will find out about the wonderful characters in this book and appreciate the incredible descriptive writing Sophia Anderson uses to transport us right into the depths of this story.
Please continue to encourage your child to read every day at home! Reading helps to improve writing and all areas of academic work. Please listen to your children read whenever possible, question them on the story or characters to ensure true understanding of the text.
DT this term is an exciting look into cooking and nutrition, where we will find suitable recipes, note the relevant ingredients and equipment, follow the recipe and ultimately understand where the foods come from.
In English, we will use the book, the film and our knowledge of 'The Wizard of Oz' to support our writing. We will write characterisations using comparative and contrastive vocabulary, as well as persuasive writing techniques to convince the Witch to change her wicked ways.
Forest School
Our Forest School days are now every other Monday: Monday 6th January, Monday 20th January and 3rd February
Please remember to send children in with their Forest School kit in a bag, as they will change after lunch. Please ensure the Forest School clothes are appropriate for the weather that day.
Please send in wellies that can be kept in school to utilise the outdoor learning spaces every day.
P.E - change of day
Our P.E lessons will now be on a Friday afternoon. This term we will be learning badminton. This will be inside, but please send the children into school with their P.E kits in their bag and a change of indoor P.E shoes, not their school trainers, or their outdoor muddy ones.
