Year 4 - Badger Class

Welcome to Badger Class

Here you will find out about each of the term's learning enquiries, special dates for your diary, PE days and forest school days.

The class teacher is Mr Chappell.

The teaching assistants are Mrs Chongbang and Miss Watson.

Welcome back everyone! I hope we all had an amazing summer holiday and are now ready to continue our learning journey in year 4. We have lots of new and exciting learning this year, and I am very excited to see how much we all learn and the progress we make.

Enquiry Question

How have children’s lives changed?

In term 1 we are looking at our history enquiry, answering the question, 'How have children’s lives changed?'. Throughout this topic, we will jump back into the past and explore a range of different sources that provide us with clues, investigating these changes through time. The children will be learning about how spare time, health and work have all dramatically improved, providing the life they have in today’s modern world. The most crucial of these changes – work – learning about a day in the life of a working child during the Tudor and Victorian periods and the significant impact a man called Lord Shaftesbury had on the child labour force. A fascinating topic of truth, reality and the recognition of just how far we have come and how lucky we all are.

Forest School and PE Days

Across the school, every year group has the opportunity to take part in forest school. We are very lucky to have Mr Walsh, our forest school leader, who runs and prepares the activities for the children in this time. We will be completing this in 3 week blocks. The dates for Badger class are:

Thursday 26th September

Thursday 3rd October

Thursday 10th October

Please make sure your child brings their Forest School kit on these days to avoid disappointment. Please be prepared for the British weather and have the appropriate clothing for the day, like wellies, a coat, a jumper and jeans.

Note: Wellies should be in school at all times, so the children can interact with the outdoor activity stations.

Our PE days are also important and require children to have their school PE kits. Ideally, we would like these to stay in the children's lockers, so they are available when we need them. Our PE day this term is on a Friday (outdoors) where we will be learning the skills and game of netball. Please can we ensure children are wearing appropriate footwear, along with their school PE clothes.

Home Learning and Reading

Times Tables Rock Stars – Times Tables Rock Stars

All children should know their usernames and passwords, to be able to access their Spelling Shed and TTRockstars accounts. Home learning challenges will be set up through these platforms for the children to complete. If you are unsure, please let me know and I can recover these for you.

All children will also have a home reading record and will be expected to read frequently throughout the week, completing reading quizzes whilst in school and changing their reading books throughout the term. Home records will need to be in school every day to be checked and also, so the class adults can listen to their reading throughout the week.

Dojo points will be awarded to those who are completing these tasks, which can then be used to redeem class awards. Points mean prizes!

If you ever have any concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to contact me or speak with one of the class team members who will be happy to help.  We will be available before and after school or, alternatively, you can email me on the Class Dojos to arrange a meeting.

We look forward to starting this amazing journey with you in year 4.
