Year 3 - Giraffe Class

Term 5

I can't believe how quickly the year has gone!

We are planning another fun packed term with lots of learning. We will be planting seeds and learning about plants in Science. Our topic is history based, we will be asking 'Why did the Romans live and settle in Britain?"

Our PSHE focus will be Health and Wellbeing, this will give us the opportunity to talk about activities that help us feel good and identify our strengths and achievements.

Forest school will continue to be every other Tuesday. Please help your child to stay warm and dry by providing them with a change of clothes and Wellington boots.

PE continues to be outdoors-MONDAY and THURSDAY. Your child is allowed to come to school in their full school PE kit on these days.

I am delighted to see how well all the children are doing in their reading practice. It makes the world of difference. Please continue to support this on a daily basis at home.

Spellings will be sent home on Mondays for a test on Friday.

Please get in touch via DOJO with any questions or queries.

Thank you for your continued support.

Please give your child lots of support with their daily reading, times tables and spelling practice.

Spellings will be sent home on Mondays, then they will be given a spelling test on Friday of the same week.

Please get in touch with me via Class Dojo if you have ay queries or questions.

Thank you for your continued support.

Our topic focus is aimed at understanding the lives of people in Iron Age Britain and how artefacts help us to do so. The children will get an opportunity to design their own castles in Design and Technology as well as immerse themselves in our first chapter book - The Iron Man by Ted Hughes.

We will be making our own Iron Man within class, so please chat to your child at home about what they have been making and how big it is!

Forest School will stay the same-Tuesday every week, rain or shine. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the session by bringing named 'old' clothes in to school that day. They will then need to change back in to school uniform for the rest of the day.

Welcome to Giraffe Class. Our teacher is Miss Hilton and Teaching Assistant is Mrs Ali.

 Term 2.

This term's topic is 'How and why is my local area changing?' We will be looking at how our school has changed and investigating within our local area. Our scientific enquiries will bring us to learn more about 'Rocks and Soil.'

Our reading focus is 'Voice in the Park,' written by Anthony Browne, an author I am sure the children are already familiar with. Giraffe Class will also be able to enjoy reading for pleasure in our new jungle reading  area within our classroom. I would love to hear about books they have been enjoying at home too, please encourage your children's love of reading and share it with us at school.

Our English lessons will be linked to our topic, and we will be working with a second  Anthony Browne picture book called 'The Tunnel.'  As well as 'The Window' by Jeannie Baker and 'The Promise' by Nicola Davies. We look forward to showing off some of our writing and art skills throughout the next few weeks.

PE days will be Mondays and Thursdays-children are encouraged to wear their school team coloured T-shirts. Giraffe Class will be enjoying Forest School every Tuesday morning, we would be grateful if they could bring a change of suitable clothes for this. It will be muddy and so old clothes are recommended.

Finally, if you have any questions or queries, please contact me via our Class Dojo page or at the door at the end of the school day.

Term 1

We hope you’re excited about your first term in Giraffe Class! Our first term topic is 'How did the lives of ancient Britons change during the Stone Age?' In this topic we will have the opportunity to explore and examine history from prehistoric Britain. We will carry this topic over into art, reading and English - recreating Stone Age jewellery, learning how to do cave drawings and even writing instructions on how to wash a woolly mammoth!

The books we will focus our reading lessons on are 'How to wash a woolly mammoth' by Michelle Robinson and 'Stone Age Boy' by Satoshi Kitamura.

In Science we will be learning about Animals Including Humans and PE will be football and multiskills. We will even be beginning to learn French!

During Term 1, our P.E days will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please make sure your child has their kit in school on these days. They will require a pair of shorts or joggers, a P.E t-shirt and plimsolls or trainers. Our Forest School days will be on alternate Fridays, please make sure your child brings their Forest School kit in with them on these days.

Home learning is sent home every week on Fridays and should be returned by the following Thursday. You will find six activities in the homework book. Your child can select one of these to complete each week. Children are also encouraged to read at home every day.
