Year 2 - Penguin Class
Welcome to Penguin Class. Our class teacher is Mrs Read
The focus for our learning in Term 6 is around our geography enquiry question of 'Why do we love being beside the sea so much?'.
We have chosen to study the seaside to contrast with our prior learning about Canterbury, an urban area. We will be building on our geography skills and knowledge learnt in Year One where we used maps to name and locate the four countries that make up the United Kingdom and using aerial photographs to find human and physical features. We will be looking at local seaside towns and beaches and our main objective is to enable the children, as young geographers, to identify and begin to understand the key physical and human geographical features of the seaside and to understand the impact that humans have on coastal areas.
During Term 6, our P.E day will be Thursdays. This term we are very pleased to welcome a tennis coach who will be teaching tennis to Penguin Class. Please make sure your child has their kit in school on these days. They will need shorts, a house P.E t-shirt and either plimsolls or trainers.
Our Forest School days will be on alternate Tuesdays. Please make sure your child brings their Forest School kit in with them on these days. Penguin Class Forest School days are:
Tuesday 13th June
Tuesday 27th June
Tuesday 11th July
Home learning is sent home every week on Fridays and should be returned by the following Thursday. You will find six activities in the homework book. Your child can select one of these to complete each week. Children are also encouraged to read every day at home and receive Dojo points when they do this.
If you ever have any concerns or questions please don't hesitate to contact me. I am at the classroom door before and after school or, alternatively, you can email me on the Class Dojos.
