Welcome to Squirrel Class
Class Teacher: Miss Hebditch
Teaching Assistant: Miss Foreman and Miss Frogley
Term 6
Welcome back to the last term of Year 2.
We have entered our last term, and we're all looking forward to making it the best one!
Our trip this term will be to Margate Turner Contemporary and the beach. We will travel by coach and have lunch there. More details will be given soon.
English
Our English sessions will be linked to the following books:

The Cook and the King by Julia Donaldson
The Queen's Hat by Steve Antony
If I Were King by Chelsea O'Byrne
Writing will continue to focus on punctuation, description and extending with conjunctions. To support our writing, we will begin the term with a ‘Royal Tea Party!’ The children can bring their best party outfit to wear! Please see DOJO for updates. We will also link some writing to our history, William the Conqueror.
Phonics
In our phonics learning we will continue to learn the Level 6 sounds to support us with our reading and spelling. If you would like to support your child with this at home, you might find the following video clip helpful:

Maths
Our maths learning continues with fractions, leading to telling the time to the nearest five minutes, collecting data and presenting it, as well as continuing to practising addition and subtraction. Please continue to help by practising your 2,5, and 10 times tables at home whenever you can.

It is always helpful to us for you to support your child’s learning at home with tasks such as telling the time, money and measurement. We will visit these areas but if they are already familiar, it is beneficial.
History
Our history enquiry focus is ‘What is a Monarch?’ You will be able to understand what a monarch is and who our monarchy is, as well as stepping back in time to find out about William the Conqueror and how he became the King of England. There will be lots of investigating different types of castles too.
Science
Our science focus is to extend our knowledge from last term’s focus on plants and growing. An exciting project which will teach us how to reduce, reuse and recycle by learning how paper is made and making our own plant pots from eco-friendly materials.
DT
This term is all about sewing! Sew a running stitch, preparing and cutting fabric and adding decorations. Please feel free to donate any threads, buttons or felt you have spare at home!
