Year 6 - Woodpecker Class
Welcome to Woodpecker class
Class teacher: Mrs Pursey.
Teaching assistants: Mr Hopgood, Miss Nielson and Miss Yates.
Welcome back to Term 5!
I hope you have all had a wonderful break and are ready to take on the new term.
This term is a short but busy one. We have a visit from Barton Manor to support with our upcoming secondary transitions, an additional drama transition workshop, as well as a Universal worries workshop and some sporting activities. We have the Key Stage 2 SATs the week beginning 12th May and will start working on our production shortly afterwards.
We are learning about circulation and health in Science and will be exploring the heart and circulatory system through models and enquiries and considering how lifestyle choices affect our health.
Our English will focus on narrative writing around an animation. We will have the opportunity to implement many of the skills learnt around sentence structure and punctuation. We will be writing setting and character descriptions, in addition to using dialogue to move the story on.
We continue reading The Girl Who Speaks Bear, where we will find out if Yanka - the main character - remains a bear.
Forest school
Forest School continues to be on a Monday. As there are only three Mondays this term, we will use a carousel of activities. Each child will have one Forest School session, as well as team-building and problem-solving activities. Your child will need to come into school wearing their school uniform with a suitable change of clothes and footwear in a bag that you are happy to get dirty and wet. Wellies or walking boots are required to be in school every day, so everyone can access the field daily, even if it is a little damp.
P.E
This term P.E has changed to a Thursday afternoon and we will be outside. Please send in P.E kit and trainers to change into for the lesson. For health and safety purposes, earrings must be removed and long hair tied back for all P.E sessions.
Reminders will be sent about Forest School and P.E on Class Dojo, as well as information shared about the learning. Any queries or questions please message me using Class Dojo.
