Year 6 - Woodpecker Class
Welcome to Woodpecker class
Class teacher: Mrs Pursey.
Teaching assistants: Mr Hopgood, Miss Nielson and Miss Yates.
Welcome back to Term 6!
Wow, I can't believe we are in the final term of the school year. This is a long and busy term, so I hope we're all rested and ready. We are joining the Trust Art Day the first day back, where we will listen to the song 'Defying Gravity' and discuss the themes, before creating art inspired by the message of freedom, ambition and empowerment.
For the first three Tuesdays, some of us will be joining the Royal Institution Primary Maths Masterclass. This will be completed online in our classroom, completing challenges and solving problems.
Children will be visited by adults from their new schools over the first few weeks of the term and we also have additional transition workshops. We will be visited by Kent Police and the Fire and Rescue service to advise children on safety. There will also be a variety of sporting activities during the term. Many of the children took scripts home over the holiday for our end of year play. We really appreciate your support with the children learning their lines and showcasing their talent.
As well as all of the above, we will be continuing with our learning. This term our Geography enquiry is Who are Britain's National Parks for? We will understand the location, distribution and purposes of national parks in Great Britain and how they are managed in a way to ensure their sustainability. This enquiry begins at a national scale as pupils establish where national parks in the United Kingdom are located, the factors behind their distribution and their associated three purposes. As the investigation progresses, the scale of study moves to a regional perspective before the investigation widens to provide a global perspective and comparison to the United States.
Forest school
Forest School continues to be on a Monday. We will alternate for these sessions. Our first one will be Monday 9th June, then fortnightly after that. Your child will need to come into school wearing their school uniform with a suitable change of clothes and footwear in a bag that you are happy to get dirty and wet. Wellies or walking boots are required to be in school every day, so everyone can access the field daily, even if it is a little damp.
P.E
This term P.E continues to be on a Thursday afternoon and we will be outside. Please send in P.E kit and trainers to change into for the lesson. For health and safety purposes, earrings must be removed and long hair tied back for all P.E sessions.
Reminders will be sent about Forest School and P.E on Class Dojo, as well as information shared about the learning. Any queries or questions please message me using Class Dojo.
