Year 5 - Otter Class
Welcome to Otter class
Class Teacher: Mrs Webb
Teaching Assistant: Mr Dole
Term 6
It's hard to believe that we are nearing the end of Year 5! Though the term ahead is long, there are plenty of exciting things to look forward to during it. These include three separate art events for Year 5, a trip to Canoe Wild (June 18th), a trip to Hampton Court Palace (June 27th), Sports Day (July 17th) and other fun activities. I'm very excited about the term ahead!
Our enquiry this term is geography-based and will ask, Why is fair trade fair? In this unit of study, we will investigate the issue of trade at a range of scales – from the personal to the global context. At an individual level, the pupils reflect on what they and their families buy and from where it originates. We will learn about the oldest trading route in the world, the Silk Road, as well as find out more about the origins of particular items, like bananas, and discuss how fairly the producers and workers are paid for these everyday things.
For reading, we will be reading Street Child by Berlie Doherty, a historical novel about a Victorian boy who finds himself alone on the dangerous streets of London and how a chance meeting with Dr. Thomas Barnardo changes his life forever.
P.E will continue to be on MONDAYS this term and will be athletics outside. Children must bring their kit into school in a bag ready to change into after lunch. Earrings will need to be removed for P.E lessons.
We will have Forest School three times during the term, due to several date clashes. The dates are: Friday, 6th June, 20th June, and July 18th. Children will need to bring their kit into school ready to change after lunch. Please be mindful of the weather and choose appropriate clothing/footwear for whatever we get on those days.
