Welcome to Term 2
This term in Year 5, we are diving into an exciting range of topics across our subjects!
In English, we will be exploring Boy by Roald Dahl. Through this fantastic autobiography, we’ll discover more about Dahl’s early life and use it as inspiration to write our own autobiographical pieces. We’ll also develop our skills in researching and writing information texts, learning how to organise facts clearly and present them in engaging ways.
In maths the children will be building their skills in multiplication and division before moving on to fractions. They will practise solving problems, using different calculation strategies, and applying their learning to real-life situations. These units will help the children become more confident and fluent mathematicians.
Our Science topic, Earth and Space, will take us on a journey beyond our planet! We’ll learn about the solar system, the movement of the Earth, Moon and Sun, and how these create day, night, and the seasons.
In History, we’ll be stepping back in time to study the fascinating Mayan civilisation. We’ll explore their culture, beliefs, achievements, and the legacy they left behind.
For Design and Technology, we’ll become engineers as we investigate bridges — how they’re designed, the forces that act on them, and how to build strong, stable structures of our own.
Finally, in Music, we’ll be discovering the world of the Blues. We’ll listen to famous blues musicians, learn about the origins of the genre, and even have a go at creating our own blues-inspired performances.
It’s set to be a term full of creativity, curiosity, and discovery!
Our PE day is on Wednesday and children are advised to come to school already in their PE kits.
