All about the Sustainable Development: Importance, Benefits & More

Term 6

Welcome back Badger Class for Term 6! We have now reached the final stages of Year 4. As we consolidate our learning, the children have the opportunity to look back and reflect on how far they have come on their journey. This term is a slightly longer period but ultimately gives them the time they need to finalise their maths number skills, to perfect their level of quality writing and to prepare themselves for their new adventure that awaits them in year 5. I look forward to spending these final weeks with them celebrating their successes and being proud of their achievements.

Enquiry Question - Geography

How can we live more sustainably?

In Term 6 we are looking at our final geography enquiry, answering the question, 'How can we live more sustainably?' This enquiry is perhaps one of the most important and challenging of them all, as it discusses many of the problems that the world is working to deal with and solve today. Sustainability is a topic we could all do with some lessons in and affects all of us in our school, in our workplace, at home and throughout society. We will look into what we mean by being sustainable, what we mean by a sustainable lifestyle and how we can make better choices in what we do. By investigating some of these key issues, we can identify the solutions people across the world are implementing and how nature is being affected or, in some cases, fighting back against the choices we are making.

Forest School and PE Days

Walking through the forest....what will we find...could it be a bear?

The sun is coming out, the forest is in bloom and this term we will be explorers as we investigate our landscape and link our activities to our new class book 'The Last Bear'.

Every year, each group has the opportunity to take part in forest school, and we are lucky to have Mr Walsh as our forest school leader. This term our forest school sessions will be held on the following dates:

The official dates for Badger class are:

Thursday 26th June

Thursday 3rd July

Thursday 10th July

Please make sure your child brings their Forest School kit on these days to avoid disappointment. Please be prepared for the British weather and have the appropriate clothing for the day including your wellies.

Note: Wellies should be in school at all times.

Our PE days are also important and require children to have their school PE kits. Ideally, we would like these to stay in the children's lockers, so they are available when we need them. Our PE day this term will continue to be on a Tuesday afternoon (indoors) where we will be taking part in some gymnastics activities.

Home Learning and Reading

Times Tables Rock Stars – Times Tables Rock StarsTwinkl Home Learning Hub - Twinkl

All children have got access to their TTRockstars accounts. However, we have also embraced a new platform, called Twinkl Learner, which children can access in school and at home. This is full of learning games, challenges and opportunities for them to practice their weekly spellings and timetables.

Please support us and make sure they are accessing this at home to support their learning. If you are unsure of any logins or access to the Twinkl account, please let me know and I will be happy to help.

All children will also have a home reading record and will be expected to read frequently throughout the week, completing reading quizzes whilst in school and changing their reading books throughout the term. Home records will need to be in school every day to be checked and also, so the class adults can listen to their reading throughout the week. Friday will be the day the children can complete reading quizzes.

We have changed the way we now use dojos and how children can earn merits in school. Each pupil will start the term with 0 dojo points and will aim to achieve 30. Once they reach this target, they will be entitled to a prize from the class prize box. Their dojos will then be reset.

The children can also earn merits for demonstrating school values, exceptional work in class, earning the weekly star award and other learning achievements. These merits add up and once they receive 12 merits, they can trade these in for a gold coin that can be used in the school book vending machine. The children are excited to start earning their prizes and all want to be the first person to receive the golden coin.
