Term 6
Animal Adventures
During our 'Animal Adventures' topic we will be exploring animals in different environments around the world through stories, videos and photographs. These include looking at animals that live in the African savannah with 'Handa's Surprise' and 'We're Going on a Safari', animals that live in the jungle, using 'Walking Through the Jungle' and 'Rumble in the Jungle' and animals that live in the frozen lands of the Arctic and Antarctic, using 'Lost and Found'. This will link really well to our school trip to Wingham Wildlife Park, where we will get to see some of the real-life animals that we have been learning about.
We will also be exploring plants, including sunflowers and fruits, which will support the children's understanding of how things grow and change throughout the year. We will be planting some sunflowers and watching them grow throughout the term. We will give you updates on dojo!
During the term we will also be learning all about year one. What amazing adventures will they have next year? Where will their new classroom be? What does a day in the life of a year one child look like? We are even going to interview some of the children and adults from year one to find out all about year one.
Phonics
In phonics we will continue practising our Level 3 phonemes (sounds), which includes digraphs such as ch ee and oo. We will continue developing our skills to be able to read and write simple words and sentences using these phonemes. The children will continue bringing home Rhino Reader phonics books containing the sounds they can confidently recognise and blend. If you have any questions about Rhino Readers or how to support your child at home with their reading, then please just ask as we are here to help. The children also have login details for Twinkl Phonics online, which offers a great selection of games for the children to play which help to develop their blending and segmenting skills as well as their phonic recognition.
Forest School -Tuesday
Your child will need to come to school in their Forest School kit for these sessions, with their school uniform in their bag to change into. Please provide them with old clothes, water proofs and some wellington boots or snow boots. With the weather changing, please ensure your child has clothes that are cool and still waterproof, because the weather is always unpredictable.
P.E. - Thursday
Please make sure that your child wears their P.E. kit to school on Thursday mornings. This should include shorts, a t-shirt and plimsolls/trainers.
How you can help at home
- Read with your child at least three times a week. Every week on Friday, your child's books will be changed. Please sign the reading record so that we can keep track of what books have been read.
- Practise the phonic sounds we have been learning in class.
- Talk to them about school routines, such as putting their things in their lockers, lunch times, eating, register and tidying up.
- Use the curriculum newsletter to discuss their current learning and encourage them to incorporate what they have been learning into their everyday routines.
- Explore their interests through play.
Thank you for your support. If you ever have any concerns or questions then please don't hesitate to contact me. I am at the classroom door before and after school or alternatively, you can email me on ClassDojo.
