Welcome to Otter class

 Term 5

This term, our learning is centred around relationships, friendships and wellbeing, supporting children to feel confident, valued and ready to learn. Alongside this, we have planned an exciting, creative curriculum that links subjects together in meaningful ways.

 Wellbeing, Relationships and Friendships

We are placing a strong focus on building positive relationships and friendships within the class. Through a range of team‑building and cooperative activities, children will develop skills such as communication, empathy and problem‑solving. These activities are designed to promote emotional wellbeing, resilience and a sense of belonging.

English – Wonder

In our English lessons, we will be reading the book Wonder by R. J. Palacio. Through this powerful story, children will explore important themes such as:

  • Identity
  • Kindness
  • Acceptance
  • Empathy

We will use the text to inspire thoughtful discussions, creative writing, character exploration and reflection on how our actions affect others.

🌍 Geography – Life in the Desert

In geography, children will be learning about desert environments. We will explore questions such as:

  • What is it like to live in the desert?
  • How do people, plants and animals adapt to desert conditions?
  • How does a desert compare to where we live?

This learning will help children build an understanding of different places and ways of life around the world.

Art – 3D Sculpture and Mask‑Making

Our art focus this term is 3D art and sculpture. Children will design and create expressive masks, linking closely with our literacy work on Wonder. This project will encourage creativity, experimentation with materials and thinking about how art can represent emotions, identity and individuality.

🔬 Science – The Human Timetable

In science, we will be learning about the human timetable, exploring how our bodies work across a day. Children will investigate topics such as:

  • Daily routines
  • Sleep and rest
  • How our bodies change throughout the day
  • The importance of healthy habits

This learning supports children’s understanding of how to look after their bodies and wellbeing.

Monday is our PE day and this term it is Otter class for Forest School.
