Welcome to Year One.
In English this term we are studying journeys through fiction and non-fiction.
We are researching journeys by air, on the ground and on water.
We are reading texts such as We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen, This is the Bear by Sarah Hayes and Whatever Next! by Jill Murphy.
We are covering a range of GPS (grammar, punctuation and spelling), including:
* Basic sentence structure
In Maths we are focusing on:
* Number and place value
* Addition and subtraction
* 2D and 3D shape
In Science we are observing the changes in Seasons, identifying signs of the seasons and describing the weather associated with each season.
We are also going to study animals including humans.
PE will be on Tuesdays.
Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school at all times.
Your child's PE kit should be in a clearly named bag and should include:
* Black shorts
* School PE T-shirt in house colours
* Trainers or plimsoles
* A warm track suit for when it is colder outside.
Your child will be expected to bring their reading book every day.
They will be heard reading within school, but it is really important that they read at home too.
It is important that they read as often as possible.
Please encourage your child to read all sorts of texts such as:
* Cereal packets
* Shopping lists
Homework will be set once a week on a Friday and will be due in on the following Thursday.
If you have any questions about you child's learning, please do not hesitate to ask.
